Tigers Finish Behind Nationally Ranked Host Team At Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Wittenberg Tigers put together a pair of solid rounds despite unseasonably cool, wet conditions at the Allegheny Invitational, finishing third in the 12-team field, but trailing just one opposing school.

The host Gators fielded the top two teams in the competition, winning the tournament by a wide margin with a 655 team score over its B team with a 681. The Tigers finished third with a 690 on the par-73, 5,802-yard Country Club of Meadville course, 15 strokes ahead of Baldwin-Wallace, which was ranked 40th in the most recent GolfStat rankings, based on head-to-head competition. Allegheny was ranked ninth.

Wittenberg, ranked 19th by GolfStat, carded team rounds of 352 and 338. Individually, freshman Mary Eighmy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) made her first collegiate start in her home state a memorable one, finishing 11th with a two-round total of 169.

Close behind were three other Tigers who finished in the top 20. Junior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) finished with a 172, good for 13th place, followed by freshman Maggie Prokop (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) in 15th place with a 174 and junior Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) in 18th with a 176.

The Tigers return home to their final fall tournament Oct. 9-10 at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield.
