Tigers Capture Second Place At Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers didn't win the tournament, but they did serve notice that they are ready to compete with some of the top teams in the Great Lakes Region and the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2010-11.

The Tigers, with three freshmen among their five players in the competition, finished second in the 12-team field at Baldwin-Wallace's Yellow Jackets Fall Invitational. While the Tigers finished 25 strokes behind first-place Allegheny, they wound up 24 strokes ahead of host Baldwin-Wallace on the strength of three individual top-10 finishes.

Freshman Mary Eighmy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) carded a two-round total of 163 to finish in a fifth-place tie. She was awarded all-tournament honors on tiebreaker criteria.

Freshman Maggie Prokop (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) was right behind with a 164, good for a tie for seventh place. Junior Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) rounded out the Tigers' top 10 finishers with a score of 166 after matching rounds of 83.

Junior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) bounced back from an uncharacteristic 90 on Day 1 to move back to 15th place with a two-round total of 171. Freshman Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) finished 18th with a score of 173, while junior Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) played as an individual and finished 29th at 181.
