SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on the fall 2010 season with a record-breaking performance in the Pat Clouse Invitational, posting back-to-back rounds of 321 to claim third place in a 17-team field.
The best previous one-day team total was 322, posted a year ago at Northern Kentucky. The Tigers bested that mark on both days at sun-drenched Windy Knoll Golf Club, which was playing 5,860 yards with a par of 71. The team score of 642 was four strokes back of Otterbein in second place and 21 behind third-ranked DePauw.
Individually, freshman Maggie Prokop (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) finished fifth with a two-day total of 157. He was followed by junior Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) in eighth place with a 159, junior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) in 17th with a 164, freshman Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) in 17th with a 164, and freshman Mary Eighmy (Erie, Pa./McDowell)in 27th with a 168.
Wittenberg's B team also finished in the top half of the competition with a 712. Sophomore Meghann Greene (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led that group in 22nd place with a 166. She was followed by freshman Jenna Gentner (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) in 38th with a 178, junior Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) in 41st with a 179, and sophomore Miranda Pettit (Crawfordsville, Ind./North Montgomery) in 51st with a 189. The field included 88 golfers.
