No. 1 Seeded Tigers Take Down Fighting Scots in NCAC Quarterfinal

Springfield, OH- After claiming a 68-51 victory over the Yeowomen for a share of the NCAC Regular Season Champion title the Tigers returned to Pam Evans Smith Arena for the Quarterfinal match-up of the 2022-23 NCAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The number one seeded Wittenberg team took on the number eight seeded College of Wooster in the first round. In their third appearance this year The Tigers were able to take down the Fighting Scots with a score of 76-43 to advance to the semifinal round.

The Tigers shot 40.5% from the field, 39.1% in three-points and 70.0% from the line going 7-10. Wittenberg was able to put 76 points on the board being led by Jazmyn Gaines-Burns with 17 points and six rebounds. Defensively, the Tigers were led by Jade Simpson with nine rebounds.

In the first quarter the Tigers controlled the ball, putting up 21 points on the board to gain a 9-point lead over the Fighting Scots. The Red & White expanded that lead to 17 in the second quarter, putting up 19 points to head into the half with a 40-23 score. Wittenberg limited the College of Wooster to only six points in the third quarter while scoring 22 of their own to make the score 62-29 to head into the final quarter with a comfortable lead. In the fourth quarter the Tigers added 14 to their total for a final score of 76-43 to claim yet another victory over Wooster.

Wittenberg who is now 21-4 in the post season will look to advance further in this tournament and make a run at the championship title for the second year in a row.
