Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Pam Evans Smith Arena for their final regular season game against the Yeowomen of Oberlin College during their Breast Cancer Awareness Game in honor of the late Pam Evans Smith. The last time the Tigers saw Oberlin in action it was a close four-point battle with Wittenberg coming out on top. This time around the Red and White were able to claim a 17-point lead and 68-51 victory over the Yeowomen for a share of the NCAC Regular Season Champion title.
The Tigers shot 46.0% from the field, 35.7% in three-points and 70.8% from the line going 17-24. Wittenberg was able to put 68 points on the board being led by Jazmyn Gaines-Burns with 18 points and five rebounds. Defensively, the Tigers were led by Rachel Hartman with seven rebounds.
Wittenberg held a close first quarter with Oberlin, but were able to outscore the Yeowomen by five for a 22-17 score before hammering in 15 more points in the second quarter to expand their lead to 14 while slowing the Yeowomen to their lowest scoring quarter of the game. In the third quarter, Wittenberg put 20 points on the board to keep pace to claim their thirteenth conference win. The fourth quarter the Tigers slowed down, only putting up 11 points but were able to keep their lead and end with a final score of 68-51.
Wittenberg ends the regular season as co-champions along with DePauw, sharing the title with a 13-1 conference record and overall record of 20-4 heading into the post season. The Red & White will head into the NCAC tournament as the number one seed.
