Tigers Claim First Conference Victory Over Big Red

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back in action at home for their first conference game of the season. The Tigers took on the Big Red of Denison University. With a home court advantage, going 5-1 in Pam Evans Smith Arena, the Red & White looked to pick up their fifth straight win. After putting up 62 points the Tigers claimed a 62-55 win over the Big Red.

The Tigers shot 35.9% from the field, 35.7% in three points, and 68.8% from the line. Wittenberg was able to put 62 points on the board being led by guard, Jazmyn Gaines-Burns with 17 points and ten rebounds. Defensively, the Tigers were backed by Gaines-Burns with her ten rebounds followed by Molly Scott with eight.

Wittenberg was able to land 16 points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second to head into halftime with 29 points on the board and a seven-point lead over the Big Red. The Red & White were outscored in the third quarter but remained ahead, adding 13 points on the board for a close 42-40 game going into the final quarter of play. Wittenberg put up 20 points in the fourth quarter to capture their fifth straight victory and first conference victory of the season with a final score of 62-55.   

Up Next: Wittenberg will return to action on January 7th against DePauw in Pam Evans Smith Arena. Tip-off will begin at 2:00 PM. The Tigers are dedicating the game to Liver Cancer Awareness and encourage fans to wear green.
