Franklin, Ind. – The Wittenberg women's basketball team picked up their second consecutive win, taking down the Grizzlies of Franklin College 64-47. The Tigers held the home team to just six points through the first ten minutes of action. Freshman Delaney Williams led the Wittenberg scoring effort with a new career-high 18 points. Williams notched her best shooting performance from so far, converting on 72% from the field. The freshman added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals her final line.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Wittenberg opened the scoring, going on a 7-0 run through the first six minutes of action. Scoring four points in the first quarter, Williams added seven more in the second to tally 11 of her 18 before the break. Sydney Mayle logged her second double-digit rebounding effort of the season, reeling in eight of her 10 boards through the first half. Both teams came out of the half on the attack, in the highest scoring ten-minutes of the game, Wittenberg would outscore Franklin 22-17 through the third quarter. Mayle rattled off six points adding two rebounds. Kristie Kalis would come off the bench to score seven of her 15 in the third.
WHO STOOD OUT: Williams (18), Kalis (15), Alex Kiess (10) rounded out the Tiger's double-digit scorers. Mayle tallied seven points with ten rebounds, adding four steals and an assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Tigers connected on 23 of their 56 attempts from the field, including a 42% conversion rate on three-point attempts. The Grizzlies turned the ball over 16 times in the game, as Wittenberg was able to capitalize with 22 points off the Franklin miscues. In a game where Franklin never led on their home floor, the Tigers used the depth of their bench to tally 27 points on the evening.
