Witt Softball Earns Split With Earlham

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Wittenberg's softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Earlham on Saturday, March 22, falling 6-0 in the first game, then capturing the second 2-1 at Betty Doughman Dillahunt Field.

 The Tigers couldn't muster up much offense in game one with Diana Quevedo (La Quinta, CA / La Quinta) and Julia Burch (Dublin, OH / Dublin Jerome) getting the only hits of the game. Quevedo's hit was a triple. Pitcher Lilly Shaw (Washington Courthouse, OH / Washington) went the distance on the mound and took the loss. She allowed nine hits and five earned runs while giving up one walk, and striking out one in the game. Madison Millington (Westerville, OH / Westerville South) had a stolen base for the Tigers in game one.

Samantha Zungri (Canal Winchester, OH / Canal Winchester) picked up the win in game two, going 5.2 innings and giving up six hits and one run while walking one and striking out seven. Lilly James (Troy, OH / Troy) worked 1.1 innings, striking out four. 

Wittenberg improves to 11-3 with the split while Earlham goes to 9-5 on the season.

Game Two Team Leaders

  • Burch and Meghan McCans (Arcanum, OH / Arcanum) each went two-for-three and scored a run for the Tigers.
  • Rebekah Giel (Amelia, OH / West Clermont) was one-for-two.
  • Kirsten Wright (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge) had the only RBI of the game. She lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Burch and give Witt the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wright had two stolen bases in the game.
  • McCans stole third base, then came home on an error by Earlham pitcher in the sixth inning to give the Tigers the 2-1 lead and the eventual win.

Up Next

The Tigers' next game is a doubleheader at Otterbein on Wednesday, March 26. Games will take place at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
