Senior Julia Burch named NCAC Softball Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg senior Julia Burch (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 25-31.

This marks Burch's first NCAC Player of the Week accolade of the season and the second of her career, joining the one she earned as a freshman when she was an All-NCAC selection.

The latest recognition comes after she batted .714 in two games during the week, going a combined 5-for-7 at the plate with one RBI, three runs scored and five stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep of Capital with wins of 6-0 and 10-4.

The outfielder was 3-for-3 with two runs and three steals in Game 1 and was 2-for-4 with one RBI, one run and two steals in Game 2.

Burch is currently tied for the team lead in hits (38) and ranks second in batting average (.392) and steals (15).

In 123 career games at Wittenberg, she has 143 hits and 38 steals, which rank tied for ninth and sixth, respectively in program history.

The Tigers (14-12 overall) return to action on Tuesday, April 9, opening NCAC play with a doubleheader at Hiram beginning at 3:30 p.m.
