Tigers Drop Final Series of California Spring Break Trip

Los Angeles, CA – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team dropped their final two games of their California Spring Break trip, falling to California Lutheran University. The Wittenberg seventh inning comeback effort fell short in game one, falling 3-1. Coming back once again, in a nail biter, the Tigers fell in the final game of the series, 10-8.

Wittenberg tallied 16 hits in the series, with 13 hits coming in game two of the slate against Cal Lutheran.

Meghan McCans went 4 for 4 at the plate in the second game, adding a stolen base to her stat line. Three Tigers tallied two hits in the second game, Julia Burch, Ashlynn Stamper and Briana Busic each going 2 for 4 at the plate. Burch and Stamper added two RBI each for the Tiger offense.

Wittenberg scored in bunches, putting up three runs in the first, three runs in the fourth and their final two in the eighth. Audrey Robinson kickstarted the Tiger scoring with a bunt single to bring home Busic. Burch followed with a two-RBI bunt single, adding to the Tiger advantage, plating Harper Crews and Robinson.

After a five-run second inning by Cal Lutheran  and a scoreless third, Wittenberg responded in the fourth. Samantha Zungri forced the defensive error to cut into the home lead. After a Lily James drove in the equalizing run, Stamper put Wittenberg back on top with an RBI single down the line in left, 6-5.

Trailing by four heading into the sixth, the Wittenberg offense would manage just two runs through their final two at-bats. Putting up two runs in the sixth inning. Burch and McCans took advantage of the wild pitch, taking the next base, while McCans scored. Stamper drove in the final Tiger run with a single up the middle to center, plating Burch, as Wittenberg fell, 10-8.
