Tigers Fall In Heartbreaker At Occidental

Los Angeles, CA – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team dropped two hard-fought battles in their second Spring Break series from California, falling to Occidental College, 2-1 in game one, 7-6 in eight-innings in game two. Wittenberg collected 16 hits on the afternoon, with seven in the first game and nine in the second.

Ashlynn Stamper posted two hits in the first game for Wittenberg with a pair of doubles. Hanna Ecker recorded the lone RBI, driving in Lilly James and cutting the Occidental lead in half in the sixth inning.

Samantha Zungri started in the circle to start the game for the Tigers, going 3.2 innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. James and Kira van Ravensberg closed out the contest, each allowing two hits.

Things got exciting in the later stages of the game, after Occidental posted four runs in the sixth inning. Wittenberg responded with four runs in the top of the seventh. Audrey Robinson pushed across Briana Busic with a sacrifice fly, putting Wittenberg on the board. Meghan McCans singled down the line in left, continuing the Tiger rally, scoring Ecker for the second Wittenberg run. Zungri tripled to center, plating Julia Burch and James for the final two runs, capping off the rally. A two-run homer to left from Ecker in the eighth, put Wittenberg ahead 6-4. The home side responded with three runs of their own to take the 7-6 win.

Kira van Ravensberg got the start in game two, putting in 6.1 innings of work with nine hits allowed and three strikeouts. Hall closed out the game, with 1.1 innings pitched and three hits allowed.
