
Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team walked off with a game one win over the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on Tuesday afternoon. Splitting the series with OWU, the Tigers took game one with an exciting 4-3 victory. Wittenberg would end their day falling to Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1 in the final game. The Tigers collected nine hits in the first game, including the game-winning single from Clara Andersen in the bottom of the seventh to score Julia Burch.
The Tigers got the scoring started during their first trip to the plate. A single to left center by Elise Freeland, plated Burch for the first Tiger run. Hanna Ecker added a second Wittenberg run on the inning with a single up the middle to score Andersen. In the third inning, Ecker poked a shot down the right field line, scoring Andersen all the way from first. Ohio Wesleyan would stage a comeback in the fourth in the sixth innings, tying the game at 3-3. Burch got the final inning started, capitalizing on the Ohio Wesleyan error and advancing to second on the throw. After Freeland advanced the runner on a hard-hit groundout to the left side. A single from Andersen drove in the final Wittenberg run. Samantha Zungri picked up her sixth win of the year, moving to 6-3 on the season. Zungri tallied a complete game in the circle with five hits allowed and three strikeouts.
Andersen and Ecker were the only Tigers that were able to tally hits in both games against the Battle Bishops. Anderson finished her day 3 for 7 from the plate with three runs scored and an RBI. Ecker went 3 for 5 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, April 20 traveling to Kenyon College. The NCAC doubleheader is set to start at 3:30 pm.
