Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team picked up two wins on Monday afternoon defeating the Ravens from Anderson University. Wittenberg walked off in game one with a 5-4 win over Anderson, coming off the Elise Freeland two-RBI single up the middle. The Tigers carried the momentum into game two shutting down the Anderson offense with a 5-0 victory.

In game one, Wittenberg got the scoring started in the first inning on some heads-up base running by Briana Busic, capitalizing on the throwing error by the Anderson catcher. Clara Andersen plated Busic in the third inning, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage after executing the sacrifice bunt. A two-run fifth inning by the Ravens tied the game at 2-2. Freeland put Wittenberg back on top 3-2 with an RBI double to center, scoring Julia Burch in the bottom of the fifth. Anderson responded, taking the late lade scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings, leading to the Freeland walk-off hit in the final Tiger at-bat. Samantha Zungri picked up her fifth win of the season, improving to 5-1, with eight hits allowed against 33 batters faced with two strikeouts.

The Tigers kept the offense rolling, scoring two runs in the first and three in the fifth to shutout the Ravens in the final game of the doubleheader. Nikki Hawkins provided the final insurance runs in the fifth inning with a three-RBI double to left, scoring Andersen, Burch and Busic. Kira Van Ravensberg earned the win, allowing just two hits and striking out two in seven innings.
