Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team split their NCAC opener with the College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon. Wittenberg fell in game one by a final score of 12-1. The Tigers responded in game two taking an 8-4 win from the Fighting Scots. Wittenberg tallied 17 hits between the two games, with five Tigers posting two hits apiece in game two against the Fighting Scots. Hanna Ecker, Samantha Zungri, Alexis Christy and Elise Freeland each recorded an extra-base hit in the Tiger's game two win. Freeland would finish the day going 4 for 6 from the plate with one RBI and one run scored between the two games.

After falling in game one, the Tigers came out swinging in game two, putting up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings. Clara Andersen pushed the first Wittenberg run across with an RBI single up the middle in the first inning. Freeland would come around to score later in the inning as Nikki Hawkins reached on the fielder's choice. Wittenberg capped off the three-run first inning after Ecker executed the sacrifice bunt to bring home Andersen. Wittenberg would capitalize on Wooster errors in the second, with Briana Busic reaching on the Fighting Scots overthrow on her sacrifice bunt attempt, leading to Hannah Weymouth touching home. A wild pitch by the Fighting Scots later in the inning would give Wittenberg the 5-0 advantage. Wooster put up one run in the top up the third, but the Tigers responded with two more of their own in the bottom half. Zungri provided her own run support with an RBI double to left, scoring Ecker and giving Wittenberg the 7-1 lead. After a three-run rally by the Fighting Scots in the fourth, Julia Burch pushed the final Tiger run across in the sixth, sealing the 8-4 win.

From the circle, Zungri tossed a complete game allowing five hits and striking out two while facing 33 batters.
