
New Concord, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, taking a road trip to Muskingum University. The Tigers fell in both games of the doubleheader, dropping the first game 6-2. Wittenberg lost a heartbreaking game two in the seventh-inning, falling to the Muskies 5-4. Wittenberg collected 11 hits on the day, led by senior's in both games as Elise Freeland put together a 2 for 3 effort in game one. Nikki Hawkins found her way on base in all three plate appearances in the second game, going 2 for 2 with a walk.
The Tigers found themselves behind early in game one, as Muskingum went up 5-0 after three innings. The Tigers pushed their first runners across in the fourth inning, coming from a Hanna Ecker double to right center. After Musky added one more to their lead in the sixth, Hannah Weymouth added the final Tiger run of the first game with an RBI single to center.
The Tigers took the lead early in game two, putting up three runs in the top of the first. Samantha Zungri provided her own run support with a three-run double to right center. Muskingum would fight their way back to even the score at 3-3 by the bottom of the third. The Tigers would take advantage of the Muskingum error at the hot corner, as Nikki Hawkins would come all the way around to score on the Zungri fielder's choice.
