Tiger Comeback Effort Falls Short Against John Carroll

Leesburg, FL – The Wittenberg Softball comeback effort fell just short against the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University, as weather pushed the Tiger's 9:45 a.m. start time to a 9:15 p.m. start under the lights in the Sunshine State. The Tigers' tallied 10 hits on the evening with Hanna Ecker finishing the day 3 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBI's. Elise Freeland and Julia Burch would also tally multiple hits for Wittenberg, including a double by Burch and a triple from Freeland.

The Tigers were held scoreless through the first four innings of action, before a double by Burch cut the JCU lead in half at 2-1. The Blue Streaks rebounded in the bottom half of the inning, hosting a five-run rally to extend their lead out to 7-2. Wittenberg would ignite their offense once again in the top of the seventh, using their final at-bat. Senior Freeland singled up the middle to put the first Tiger baserunner aboard. A sharply hit single by Burch to the left side left the Blue Streak defense with no play to make and Wittenberg runners on first and second. Ecker slapped a single into left field bringing around Burch and Freeland as the JCU defense would go on to get the final out before any more damage was done.
