Clermont, FL – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team began their 2022 season from The Spring Games in sunny Florida, taking down the Student Princesses from Heidelberg University, 6-4. The Tigers collected eight hits on the day with Elise Freeland, Julia Burch and newcomer Diana Quevedo each logging two hits apiece.

The two sides traded three runs each in the first inning of action. The Tigers came out putting the pressure on Heidelberg, as Clara Andersen drove in Freeland on the fielder's choice. A Heidelberg error would allow Andersen to cross the plate later in the inning, adding to the Wittenberg lead. Quevedo tallied her first collegiate RBI with a single to right, bringing home Nikki Hawkins for the third Wittenberg run of the inning. After the Student Princesses matched Wittenberg's three-run first inning, Heidelberg took the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third. Wittenberg would go on to put up a single run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while holding Heidelberg scoreless throughout. Quevedo tallied her second RBI of the day in the fifth inning, putting the Tigers ahead 5-4. Burch pushed Hannah Weymouth across for the final Wittenberg run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth.

Kira van Ravensberg took to the circle to start the season for the Wittenberg softball team, tossing the complete game. Through seven innings of work, van Ravensberg allowed seven hits and struck out one against 31 batters faced.
