Tigers Celebrate Seniors

Springfield, OH – Wittenberg softball suffered a pair of tough losses to the Tigers of DePauw on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 3-2 and falling in game two by a final score of 6-1. Wittenberg collected seven hits in game one, outhitting DePauw 7-4. The Red and White added nine hits to their total in game two, as Elise Freeland, Briana Busic, and Elaina Adams each collected multiple hits.

Game Breakdown

DePauw broke the scoring open in the top of the first inning, but Wittenberg responded cutting the visitors lead in half with a run of their own. In the tight battle between the Tigers, Wittenberg tallied their first run, as Freeland come across to score as Gibson reached on the fielder's choice. The Red and White knotted the game at 2-2, as Clara Andersen laced a shot to the shortstop, pushing pinch runner Brooke Dill home. Wittenberg was battling down the stretch, before DePauw sent a home run over the center field wall, securing the 3-2 win.

Wittenberg was the first to strike in game two, after two scoreless innings, Wittenberg took advantage of the DePauw defensive miscues as Busic came around to score the lone Wittenberg run.
