Tigers Fall In Road Battle At Thomas More College

Crestview Hills, KY – The Wittenberg University softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road to the Saints of Thomas More College. The Tigers fell in game one 6-2, before going down in game two 12-4 in six innings. Wittenberg tallied 12 hits on the day between the two games. Elise Freeland and Nikki Hawkins each recorded two hits in game one for the Red and White before Abby Curnutte went 3 for 3 from the dish in game two.

Game One Breakdown

Thomas More took an early 6-0 lead through the first four innings of action. Freeland put the Tigers on the board in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double to right center, bringing home Lauren Buelow for the first Wittenberg run. Hawkins drove in the second Wittenberg run with an RBI single, advancing to second on the error by the Saints outfield, while Curnutte came around to score.

Game Two Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to the early 4-0 lead after the first inning, holding the Saints scoreless through the first two innings. After Victoria Toetz reached on the TMC error, Freeland came in to score for the first Tiger run. Buelow followed up with a base-clearing triple to left, capping off the Wittenberg four-run first inning scoring rally. Unfortunately, this would be the only offensive production for the Red and White in game two, as the Saints would add 12 runs from the third to the sixth inning.

Wittenberg will continue their work from the road, taking on Transylvania in a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 24. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
