ATLANTA, Ga. — Oglethorpe University has chosen Becky Hall as director of athletics. Hall has been Wittenberg University's assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator since 2007, and she will become Oglethorpe's fourth director of athletics since the university reassigned to NCAA Division III in 1990.

Hall will replace Jay Gardiner, who served as Oglethorpe's director of athletics from 2004-12 before becoming the inaugural commissioner of the new Southern Athletic Association. Hall leaves Wittenberg after 15 years as a coach and athletics administrator. Her Tiger softball teams have won one North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title, one NCAC Tournament championship and made two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, winning an opening round game each time. She earned NCAC Coach of the Year honors twice in her career, and in 2008 she became the first Tiger softball coach to surpass 200 career victories.

"Our athletic department staff will miss having Becky as a part of our program," said Garnett Purnell, director of athletics and recreation at Wittenberg. "With 15 years of service to Wittenberg, she has played a key role in staff development, administrative enhancements, student support programs and community service. But most of all we will miss her positive personality and the high energy level she brings to work every day."
