SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg softball took a 3-0 decision from visiting Wooster in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday at Betty Dillahunt Field, but dropped the conclusion by a 6-3 score, moving to 21-9 overall and 6-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

Following the win in game one, the Tigers boasted a six-game winning streak and became winners of 11 of their last 12 games. Even with the loss in game two, the Tigers remain on top of the conference, ahead of 4-2 Allegheny and a group of five .500 teams, including 3-3 Wooster.

Freshman pitcher Julia Williams (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) posted her second complete game, shutout victory in the circle to move to 7-3 on the season in 13 appearances. She limited Wooster to just six hits and two walks while striking out four.

Offensively, senior Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) paced the Tigers in game one by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including one in the Tigers' two-run fourth and another in the sixth. Sophomore Rachel Ross (Westerville, Ohio/South)went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove home the fourth inning's other run on a double.

As a team, the Tigers were efficient at the plate in game one, converting six hits, no walks and one Wooster error into three runs.

Wittenberg was even more efficient in game two, turning two hits into three runs with the help of four wild pitches and four walks by Fighting Scot starter Gina Pirolozzi. Wooster, however, broke up Rachel Ross' bid at an eighth consecutive pitching victory with eight hits and six runs on one walk and three strikeouts. Ross fell to 10-4 overall.

Senior Jessica Snyder (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and sophomore Laura Rose (Riverside, Ohio/Stebbins) each posted a base hit in the second game while Amicon added her fourth RBI of the day on a groundout and senior Brooklyn Cox (Dayton, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) drew two walks.

The Tigers continue their NCAC campaign with a pair of conference games at Hiram beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.
