Kaitlyn Harrison

URBANA, OHIO — The Wittenberg softball team made the short trip to nearby Urbana University on Sunday night for their third doubleheader in as many days, and dropped both ends by scores of 7-1 and 8-2 to move to 13-22 overall.

In Game 1, junior Anna Kvartunas (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) struck out three batters and walked just two but took the loss as the Tiger lineup used four hits to score one run. Freshman Laura Rose (Riverside, Ohio/Stebbins) went 2-for-3 to continue a hot stretch at the plate, and the other hits in the game came from juniors Brooklyn Cox (Dayton, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) and Katelyn Davis (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local).

Cox upped the ante with a 2-for-3, one RBI performance in Game 2, pairing with freshman Kaitlyn Harrison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) to provide the team with it's two runs. Harrison hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and Cox followed immediately with an RBI single.

Freshman Rachel Ross (Westerville, Ohio/South) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and also notched five strikeouts from the circle against just three walks in a complete game.

Junior Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) was 2-for-4 at the plate and Rose went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored to round out the Tigers' offensive numbers.

Wittenberg returns to the friendly confines of Betty Doughman Dillahunt Field in Springfield tomorrow, Monday, May 2, for another non-conference doubleheader against the Mount St. Joseph Lions, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
