Tigers Break Even On Day Two Of Augustana Tournament

MOLINE, Ill. — The Wittenberg softball team finished Sunday's games at the Augustana Tournament with a split decision, losing the first to host Augustana by an 11-3 score and winning the second over Martin Luther, 5-0. The Tigers are now 5-9 on the season.

In the day's first game, junior Jessi Allen (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) led with a 2-for-2 outing from the batter's box. She scored one run in the game. Sophomore Fallon White (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) went 1-for-3 and plated her first RBI of the season, and senior Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) was 1-for-2 with a run batted in. Sophomore Jessica Snyder (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) also notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Allen is now batting .355 on the season, while Boswell has 12 hits in 35 at-bats for a .343 season average and shares the team lead in RBIs with seven.

Senior Amanda Delagrange (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) and sophomore Katelyn Davis (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) both went 1-for-3 from the plate.

In the circle, senior Meghan O'Neill (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) started and threw the first 2-2/3 innings, followed by sophomore Anna Kvartunas (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic), who went 2-1/3.

In the 5-0 win over Martin Luther, the Tigers had a much easier time getting the bats going and received a complete-game shutout from starter Brooke Boswell. She allowed just five hits, struck out an impressive 11 batters and issued only one free pass.

White's first RBI of the season against Augustana opened the flood gates, as she went on to drive in three runs against Martin Luther. She was 2-for-4 from the plate, while Snyder led the team at 3-for-4 with an RBI. Catalfu went 2-for-5.

Overall, the Tigers scored five runs on 12 hits and one error against Luther's five hits and two errors.
