Springfield, Ohio — Following a tremendous 2007 season, the Wittenberg Tigers placed two players on the recently announced National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region teams.

The Tigers finished the season with records of 27-13 overall and 11-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for second place in the regular season title chase. After the Tigers led the NCAC in team batting average, the team's top two hitters, shortstop Sarah Fetters, class of 2008 from Maumee, Ohio, and third baseman Stephanie Zorn, class of 2007 from Grapevine, Texas, were selected second- and third-team all-region, respectively.

After two outstanding seasons in the Red & White, Fetters topped herself with a team-best .448 batting average, which put her second in the NCAC and in the top 100 nationally. She topped Wittenberg with three home runs, 22 doubles, 65 hits and 98 total bases, and she ranked second on the team with 38 runs scored as well. She stands third in the nation and first in the NCAC in doubles per game, and she now ranks among the top 10 on several career and single season school record lists.

"Sarah is our team's catalyst," said Wittenberg Head Coach Becky Hall, who completed her ninth year at the helm with a record of 189-160-1. "As our leadoff hitter she makes things happen. She's a tough out at the plate, and defensively is one of the best shortstops I've ever coached.

"She has great ball-sense and just is a team leader," Hall added. "She was voted by her teammates this season as our Most Outstanding Player, as well as one of our two captains for the 2008 season. She works hard every day to get better and to bring her teammates up to her level athletically, and academically as she is a great student as well."

Zorn, the 2005 NCAC Player of the Year, capped her career with a .415 batting average, good for second on the team and fourth in the NCAC. She led the Tigers with 30 runs batted in, and she ranked among the team leaders in almost every offensive category. For her career, Zorn set school records for most walks and base hits and ranks among the top 10 in several other categories, including batting averages, runs batted in, runs scored and home runs.

"Stephanie is a true leader on the field," Hall said. "She is one of the most feared hitters in our conference.

"I knew when she came to the plate that she was going to make something happen. She leads our team in walks because some of our opponents did not want to make the mistake of pitching to her in the No. 4 spot."
