Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University softball standout Sarah Fetters, class of 2008 from Maumee, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments with first-team CoSIDA/ESPN The MagazineAcademic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

This is the first such honor in Fetters' fine Wittenberg career. A three-year starter, Fetters ranked among the team leaders in every offensive category as the Tigers posted 2007 records of 27-13 overall and 11-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for second place in the regular season title chase.

Fetters enjoyed what could be considered a breakout season in 2007 with a team-best .448 batting average, which put her second in the NCAC and in the top 100 nationally. She topped Wittenberg with three home runs, 22 doubles, 65 hits and 98 total bases, and she ranked second on the team with 38 runs scored as well. She stands third in the nation and first in the NCAC in doubles per game, and she now ranks among the top 10 on several career and single season school record lists.

Fetters is a member of the prestigious national academic honorary Phi Beta Kappa and Wittenberg's chapter of the student-athlete honorary Chi Alpha Sigma. She has served as an intern in the Office of University Communications at Wittenberg, and this summer she is working as an intern with the West Virginia Power, the class A minor league baseball team affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers in Charleston, W.Va.

Fetters will now be considered for Academic All-America honors in voting that takes place later this month.
