Nine Errors Spoil Wittenberg's Day In Loss To Haverford

ORANGE, Calif. - Records aren't available for such things, and that's probably a good thing for the 2005 Wittenberg Tigers as they committed a stunning nine fielding miscues in an 11-2 loss to Haverford College in a game played at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. The loss dropped the youthful Tigers to 1-3 on the young season.

Sophomores Meghan Campbell and Grace Wigton met with similarly cruel fates during their time on the mound. Campbell allowed a respectable four hits and one walk in four innings, but four Haverford runs crossed the plate during that time, just one of which was earned. Wigton relieved and allowed five hits and one walk in three innings, but Haverford pushed seven runners across the dish, just one of which was earned.

Wittenberg actually led the game 2-1 through four innings before Haverford hung a four-spot on the Tigers in the fifth inning, with three of the runs being unearned. Another unearned run crossed in the plate for Haverford in the sixth inning and then five more unearned runs, thanks to five Wittenberg errors, sealed the deal in the top of the seventh.

Sophomore Stephanie Zorn was the team's offensive spark with three hits in three plate appearances and a run scored. Senior Ashley Lands added a pair of base knocks.
