Wittenberg Drops Pair At Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers didn't get the results they were seeking on the long trip to Wooster Saturday as they dropped a pair of key North Coast Athletic Conference games, 7-3 and 10-5. The Tigers dropped to 7-21 overall and 3-5 in the NCAC, while Wooster improved to 16-8 overall and 8-0 against league foes.

The Tigers led 2-0 in Game 1, but Wooster rallied for three in the second, two in the third and two in the fifth to pull away. Wittenberg got a run back in the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough as freshman pitcher Taryn Hensel allowed 11 hits and seven runs, four of which were earned. Sophomore Grace Wigton tossed one inning of scoreless relief.

Offensively, Wittenberg got two hits from senior Norah Gillam but not much else. The Tigers were unable to parlay five Wooster errors into anything more than three runs, just one of which was earned.

In Game 2, the Tigers turned to Gillam on the mound for yet another rescue, but this time she couldn't stem the tide. Wooster banged out 13 hits, a season high against Gillam, and 10 earned runs. She gave up her sixth home run of the season, including three grand slams.

Offensively, the Tigers got four runs in the fourth inning and five total on 10 hits. Gillam accumulated three hits and three runs batted in and sophomore Erin Collinsworth added three hits. The Tigers were playing without injured seniors Ashley Lands and Jen Meyer.
