Junior outside hitter Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) led Wittenberg to a 3-0 record in its first weekend of competition in the 2025 season to earn Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Offensive Player of the Week honors. Yurk totaled 35 kills and hit a blistering .406 as the Tigers defeated Roanoke, 3-0, Concordia Chicago, 3-0, and Thiel, 3-1, all in the Wittenberg Kickoff Classic. A first-team All-MCVL selection a year ago, Yurk averaged 3.9 points per set while participating in all 10 sets for the Tigers during the weekend.

The Tigers were picked to finish second in the MCVL preseason poll. Yurk is among three returning all-conference players in the Wittenberg lineup, playing alongside a host of returning letterwinners and a strong group of newcomers as well. Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Rochester, NY, where Wittenberg will open another busy weekend with a match against sixth-ranked St. John Fisher at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. The next day, Wittenberg will take on Buffalo St. and Penn St.-Behrend, with both matches scheduled to take place at St. John Fisher.
