Men’s Volleyball Falls to Charleston on the Road, 3-0

CHARLESTON, WV – Wittenberg Men's Volleyball suffered a tough loss to NCAA Division II scholarship program Charleston University, 3-0, on the road in a non-conference matchup at Wehrle Innovation Center, on Tuesday, March 18. 

The Golden Eagles had an impressive night of hitting with a percentage of .429 and defeated Wittenberg in scores of 25-9, 25-20, and 25-16. It was the second-straight loss for the Tigers, who dropped to 15-10 on the season. Charleston improved to 9-11.

Team Leaders  

  • Eli Halverson (Hamilton, OH / Badin) led the team in kills with six on 20 total attacks for seven points. He also had one service ace.
  • Michael Yurk  (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) added eight kills on 20 total attacks for eight points. He also had seven digs.
  • Carson Hill (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in assists with 17. He also added two solo blocks.
  • Jake Downs (Cincinnati, OH / Milford) led the team in digs with four.

 Team Comparison 

  • Wittenberg had 24 kills on 72 total attacks. The Tigers had 21 assists, two service aces, three solo blocks, 17 digs, 16 blocks, and a hitting percentage of .139.
  • Charleston tallied 40 kills on 70 total attacks. It also had 38 assists, eight service aces, five solo blocks, and 29 digs.

Wittenberg will get back to league action when it hosts Olivet on Friday, March 21, at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Recognition Day.
