Chris Marco

Chris Marco joined Wittenberg University's cross country and track and field coaching staff in 2023, taking over as the associate head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams and an assistant coach for the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field teams. Marco previously served as an assistant track and field coach at Emory University for middle distance and distance student-athletes.

In his first year at Wittenberg, Marco led the Tigers to their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) title in women's cross country, and his distance runners performed exceptionally well as the Tigers added indoor and outdoor track and field conference titles. On the men's side, he guided the Tigers to a third-place conference finish in cross country and his distance runners made significant contributions to a first-place finish in indoor track and field and a second-place finish in outdoor track and field conference championships. Multiple individuals earned all-conference honors under his tutelage in his first year at Wittenberg.

Before Emory, Marco was a volunteer assistant at Monmouth University while he pursued his MBA. At Monmouth, he mentored multiple athletes to regionals and guided one athlete to All-American status for the 800-meter run.

As a student-athlete, Marco was a member of the distance program at the University of Notre Dame. He was an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Champion in the distance medley, ran a personal-best time of 3:43 in the 1500, and earned ACC Academic Honor Roll multiple times. At Monmouth, Marco earned All-East Outdoor in the 1500 and 4x800 meter relay, with indoor recognition for the mile and 4x800 relay as well. He was also a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champion in the 1500, distance medley, and 4x800.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the last four years I've spent at Emory University," Marco said. "My time with the program, staff, and student athletes has allowed me a multitude of experiences that have prepared me to take the next step in leadership and responsibility. I'm beyond excited to begin my new role of Associate Head Coach of Cross Country and Assistant Track and Field at Wittenberg University. I want to thank Coach Hilliard for entrusting me with the success and future of the program and I'm looking forward to elevating the Tigers to new heights."
