OBERLIN — Sophomore Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) and senior Sam Callinan (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) posted top-five finishes as the Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon and decathlon on Saturday and Sunday.
The Basics
- Venue: Kahn Track and Shults Field - Oberlin, Ohio
- Following the combined events, the Wittenberg women sit in fourth place in the team standings with five points, and the men are in fifth place with four points.
Heptathlon
- Gibson scored 3,915 points over the seven events to finish fourth of 10 competitors and score five points toward the team's championships total. She placed first in two events.
- Saturday's portion consisted of the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters.
- Gibson won the shot put with a mark of 11.06 meters, was second in the high jump with a mark of 1.49 meters, was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.00 seconds and was sixth in the 200 in 28.23 seconds.
- She sat fourth in the 10-woman field with 2,418 points going into Sunday.
- Sunday's portion consisted of the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
- Gibson won the javelin with a mark of 33.79 meters, was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.76 meters and was seventh in the 800 in 2:50.98.
Decathlon
- Callinan scored 5,276 points over the 10 events to finish fifth of eight competitors and score four points toward the team's championships total.
- Saturday's portion consisted of 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters.
- Callinan placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.11 meters, was fifth in the 100 in 11.61 seconds, was fifth in the 400 in 54.04 seconds, was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters and was eighth in the shot put with a mark of 7.91 meters.
- He sat fifth in the eight-man field with 2,883 points going into Sunday.
- Sunday's portion consisted of the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.
- Callinan tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.00 meters, was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.89 seconds, was fifth in the discus with a mark of 27.88 meters, was sixth in the 1,500 in 5:28.39 and was eighth in the javelin with a mark of 30.77 meters.
