Watson sets new school record in pole vault as Men's Indoor Track and Field places eighth at Wittenberg Invitational

SPRINGFIELD — Sophomore Jeremy Watson (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) set a new school record in the pole vault to lead the Wittenberg men's indoor track and field team in its Wittenberg Invitational home meet on Saturday. The Tigers tied for eighth place of 11 teams in the meet.

The Basics

  • Venue: The Steemer - Springfield, Ohio
  • Wittenberg tied Berea for eighth place in the standings with 14 points.
  • Cedarville won the team title with 73 points, Ohio Northern was second with 64.5 points and Ohio Dominican was third with 36 points.
  • The top six finishers in each event earned points via a 7-5-4-3-2-1 model.

Wittenberg's Top Performers

  • Watson set a new school record on the way to a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60 meters.
  • Junior Justin Norris (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown Christian) won the high jump with a mark of 1.92 meters.
  • Junior Jack Houck (Stow, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) earned a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.24 meters. Freshman Bryce Ray (Sun City, Fla./Summer) was eighth also with a mark of 6.24 meters. 
  • Freshman Jayden McKinster (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) was seventh in the shot put with a mark of 13.84 meters.
  • Sophomore Jack Miller (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) posted a 36-second personal best in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:05.25.
  • Freshman Paul Mattingly (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned eighth place in the 400 meter dash in 50.53 seconds.
  • Freshman Caiden Allen (Ontario, Ohio/Plymouth) finished fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.02 seconds.

  • The Tigers return to action on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24, at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Kenyon College. The NCAC Championships are underway this weekend with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.
