Tiger Track Teams Both Finish Third At Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers put together an outstanding finish at Cedarville’s Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open as the men finished third in a seven-team field and the women placed third in a nine-team field.

On the men’s side, the host Yellow Jackets were the champions with 204 points to easily outdistance Ohio Dominican with 114. Wittenberg compiled 104 points.

For the women, Cedarville again was the class of the event with 256 points, followed by Wright State with 226. Wittenberg finished with 69 points.

The top individual finish for either team was by freshman Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) with a first-place finish in the long jump to go along with third in the triple jump. Freshman Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) placed second in both events.

The Tigers welcomed junior Victor Banjo (Sugarland, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) back to the track after an injury sidelined him for nearly two months. He finished second in the 100-meter dash. Also in the sprints, junior Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash.

Rounding out the top point-scorers for the Tiger men were junior Adam Markins (Chillicothe, Ohio/Union Scioto) in fourth in the 800-meter run, freshman Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington Court House) in third in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 400-meter hurdles, and senior Sven Isaacson (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) in second in the discus and fourth in the hammer throw.

The top finisher for Wittenberg’s women was freshman Becah Delp (York, Pa./Eastern York), who placed second in the high jump, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) added a third in the high jump, as did junior Shannon Kelleher (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) in the 5000-meter run.

Also of note, sophomore Shelby Kaho (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, senior Shawna Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont) finished sixth in the 400-meter dash, and junior Beverly Ochieng (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) contributed a sixth in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.
