Tiger Track Teams Open 2013 Outdoor Season At Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Wittenberg men’s and women’s track and field teams kicked off the outdoor portion of the 2013 season with a solid performance at the Muskingum Invitational.

The Tiger men placed eighth out of 15 teams in the field. Case Western, Malone and Ohio Dominican topped the standings, with Wittenberg standing 82.5 points off the pace.

The Tiger women finished ninth of 14 teams, just one point behind Waynesburg. Malone ran away with the women’s competition with 159 points. The Tigers totaled 47 points in the meet.

Among the top finishers for Wittenberg’s women were junior Beverly Ochieng (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) in second place in the triple jump, freshman Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) in fourth place in the 200-meter dash and fourth place in the 400-meter dash, junior Shannon Kelleher (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) in third place in the 5,000-meter run, freshman Sarah Ellis (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) in second place in the 10,000-meter run, and freshman Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles.

For the men, the top finish was provided by senior Trevor Grandy (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Junior Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) placed seventh in the 200-meter dash, freshman Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington Court House) finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, junior Jacob Kuntz (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) took fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, freshman Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) finished fourth in the long jump and freshman Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) placed third in the triple jump.

The Tigers get back into action on Saturday, March 30, at Cedarville.
