Wittenberg Women Claim Wilmington Invitational Title

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg's men's and women's track and field teams turned in a fine performance at the Wilmington Invitational, taking fourth place and first place, respectively, in matching seven-team fields.

The Tiger women accumulated 138 points to outdistance the host Quakers by 32. Huntington placed third with 102 points.

The Tiger men scored 61 points, one behind Huntington for third place. Wilmington won the meet with 196 points, followed by Ohio Dominican with 87.

On a day when numerous individuals scored points for the Tigers, the women's performance was highlighted by victories in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. Junior Shawnquaya Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont), freshman Leslie Goshia (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan), freshman Shelby Kaho (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) and freshman Jeannette Klamfoth (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) teamed up for the win in the 4x100 relay, while senior Samantha Iden (Pickerington, Ohio/North), senior Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven), freshman Lillian Hill (Dayton, Ohio/Dominion Academy) and Goshia were the four runners in the 4x400 relay.

Goshia rounded out a tremendous day, despite the rain and cold temperatures, with a first place finish in the 400 meters, second place in the 200 meters and second place in the long jump. Idean also had a fine day, winning the 400-meter hurdles.

On the men's side, sophomore Victor Banjo (Sugarland, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) continued to do his thing, winning the 100 meters and placing second in the 200 meters. Freshman Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) was a winner in the 400 meters.

In the throwing events, freshman Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Massillon Tuslaw) turned in a personal-best mark in the hammer throw en route to a fourth place finish, while junior Sven Isaacson (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) and sophomore Logan Jackson (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer.
