Indoor Season Off And Running At Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio — The Wittenberg track & field teams got the 2012 indoor season off to a solid start at the Capital Challenge with a second-place finish for the women and a third-place finish for the men.

The meet featured collegiate men's and women's teams Capital, Rio Grande, Central State and Ohio Dominican, as well as a men's team from Berea College.

The Tiger women won three events in all, starting with the first collegiate win for freshman freshman Shelby Kaho (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.57 seconds.

Junior Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) followed with a 2.74-meter first-place pole vault and senior Catherine Kuerbitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) wrapped up the women's wins with a 3:40.37 run in the 1000 meters.

On the men's side, the Tigers picked up two first-place finishes, including a time of 2:48.10 in the 1000-meter run by freshman Adam Kapuscinski (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and a 4.41-meter pole vault from senior Justen Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson).

The men also turned in two second-place finishes in the meet. Senior Ryan Hagen (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) finished just behind Kapuscinski in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:49.23, and sophomore Logan Jackson (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 12.81 meters.

The Tigers return to the lanes next weekend on Saturday, January 21, at the Otterbein Invitational hosted by Otterbein University at the Frank and Vida Clements Recreational and Fitness Center in Westerville, Ohio.
