Two Unscored Meets Prep Tigers For NCAC

The Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams took part in two unscored meets this weekend in final preparations for the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships on May 6 and 7.

On Friday, the Tigers ran at Denison University's Big Red Invitational against other NCAC teams like Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Kenyon and Denison. Junior Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) continued to dominate the 400 dash, turning in another first place finish on a time of 59.80.

Junior Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven)followed Domiano with the top time in the 1,500, crossing the tape in 4:55.41. Freshman Maggie McIlvain (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) added a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 on a time of 10:59.90.

Junior Lizzy Hauser (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford)finished second in the high jump with a final height of 1.52, just ahead of freshman Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto)who finished third on 1.47. Freshman Cara Vendeville (Perry, Ohio/Perry) continued the jumps success with a second-place finish in the pole vault. Freshman Erin Duffy (Concord, Ohio/Painesville Riverside) took that success to the field events with a third-place hammer throw.

Freshmen Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) and CJ Minnifield (Dayton, Ohio/Ponitz) finished 3-4 in the 200 dash for the men on times of 23.42 and 23.54, respectively. Frierson added second place in the 400 version before junior Jarrett Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) won the 800 in 1:57.86.

Junior Ryan Hagen (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) took third in the 1500 and sophomore Trevor Grandy (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) was second in the 3,000 meters before junior Justen Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) won another pole vault with a jump of 4.10. Minnifield followed with a win in the long jump (5.88), followed closely by Frierson in third. Freshman Logan Jackson (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) rounded out the top-three finishes with second in the hammer throw (42.13).

At Miami's Redhawk Invitational, senior Thomas McElwee (Herriman, Utah/Blue Valley) scored the best javelin throw among attached competitors with a throw of 167-09 and Domiano was fifth in the 100 dash behind runners from scholarship programs Kentucky State, Tiffin and Xavier (Ohio).
