Tigers Succeed At Rain-Shortened Wilmington Meet

WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Wilmington track & field meet was shortened to six events for the men and six events for the women thanks to heavy rains on Saturday, but the Wittenberg teams made the most of it with a meet championship for the women and fourth place for the men.

Leading off for the women was junior Lindley Bell (Pittsfield, Mass./Mount Greylock) with a second-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase. Freshman Cara Vendeville (Perry, Ohio/Perry) followed that by winning the long jump even as the only competitor not aided by the wind.

Sophomore Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) took second in the pole vault, and freshman Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) won the triple jump as the only participant.

On the men's side, junior Justen Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) was second in the pole vault and seniorThomas McElwee (Herriman, Utah/Blue Valley) won the javelin.

The Tigers get back at it on Friday, April 29, at the Big Red Invitational at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
