Outdoor Schedule Begins With Trip To Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams got a hot start to the outdoor season despite the cold weather at Cedarville University's Yellow Jacket Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The Tiger women placed fifth out of 13 teams, while the men finished 10th.

Highlighting the results on each side were junior Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), who took second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and sophomore Trevor Grandy (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), who topped the field in the 10,000-meter run.

Domiano was just .03 seconds off of first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.24, and turned in a 27.02 finish in the 200-meter version. Grandy's 32:56.51 broke the tape first in the 10,000.

Freshman Alea Taylor (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) also had a strong day with a second-place triple jump of 31-9.5 and a fourth-place long jump. Sophomore Kaileigh Bible (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 9-6.25.

Freshman Shannon Kelleher (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) rounded out the Tiger medalists with a third-place showing in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:12.26. Sophomore Shawnquaya Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont) scored a top-five finish for her team with fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles.

For the men, junior Justen Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) and freshman Logan Jackson (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) each turned in fourth-place finishes in field events, Cox in the pole vault and Jackson in the hammer throw, while freshman Jacob Kuntz (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The Tigers travel to Pennsylvania next weekend for the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.
