Tigers Finish Strong At Last Chance Meet; Compete Well In NCAC Pentathlon

GRANVILLE/GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's track & field teams neared the finish line of the 2011 indoor season at a last chance event at Denison and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Pentathlon, hosted by Kenyon.

On Friday at the Denison meet, the highlight was provided by junior Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven)with a first-place finish in the 800 meters and a second-place finish in the 1-mile run. She posted a time of 2:26.29 in the 800 meters, beating her seed time by nearly five seconds, and her time in the 1-mile run was 5:37.07, just over eight seconds out of the top spot. Not far behind in the 1-mile event was freshman Shannon Kelleher (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby), who placed fourth in a time of 5:46.40.

Also on the women's side, junior Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) placed fifth and sophomore Chelsey Williams (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3000 meters.

For the men, the top finish was provided by sophomore Adam Markins (Chillicothe, Ohio/Union Scioto), who placed fourth in the 800 meters. He was followed closely by freshman Jacob Kuntz (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) in fifth place in the 800 meters. In the 1-mile run, freshman Wade Westbrook (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) matched Markins with a fourth place finish, while junior Jarrett Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) was right behind in fifth.

The only Tiger competing in the men's pentathlon was senior Thomas McElwee (Herriman, Utah/Blue Valley), who placed 12th. On the women's side, sophomoreDemi Davison (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) was the Tigers' top finisher in 11th place.
