Tigers Impress At Marv Frye Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams finished the Marv Frye Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan with many individual highlights, the women turning in an eighth place finish among 15 competing teams and the men in a tie for 13th of 15. 

For the women, a new face made waves as senior Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) competed in track and field for the first time since high school and turned in a stunning second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.61 meters. Dyer is a four-year letterwinner and multiple All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree in women's basketball, helping the team to a regular season conference championship in her final season.

Freshman Whitney Goller (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton)gave a long jump of 4.99 meters for fourth place and also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash and 8th in the 100-meter hurdles, and sophomore Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) beat her seed time by 30 seconds with a fifth-place, 18:30.08 finish in the 5,000-meter run.

Freshman Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) took seventh in the pole vault, freshman Shawnquaya Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont) matched with seventh in the 400-meter dash, and sophomore Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) joined with seventh in the 200-meter dash while adding ninth in the 100-meter dash.

The 4-by-100-meter relay team of Domiano, Johnson, Goller and sophomoreJordan Stafford (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) rounded things out for the women with second-place honors.

One of the Tiger men's most reliable competitors, junior Thomas McElwee (Herriman, Utah/Blue Valley) again turned in a solid finish in the javelin throw with a 47.55-meter performance, good for fourth place.

Sophomore Jarrett Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.63, and the long jump saw freshman Josh Colbert (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana) earn eighth place with a leap of 5.91 meters.

Senior Tim Uher (Granville, Ohio/Pickerington North) helped out with an eighth-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles and added a ninth-place finish in the long jump, and junior Jumar Guy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside) contributed an eighth-place effort with a time of 52.06 in the 400-meter dash.

The Tigers return to Ohio Wesleyan next weekend on Saturday, April 17, for the All-Ohio Invitational.
