Tiger Teams Take Matching Third-Place Finishes At NCAC Relays

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams turned in a pair of strong performances at the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Relay meet, hosted by Denison. The women tied for third with Kenyon with 54.50 points, trailing only Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin, while the men placed third with 49 points, trailing Ohio Wesleyan and Wabash.

Individual highlights for both teams were provided by freshman competitors in the long jump. On the men's side, it was Josh Colbert (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana), who took the top spot with a jump of 21-4.75, more than one inch longer than his next closest pursuer. For the women, the meet's long first-place finish came courtesy of Whitney Goller (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton), who reached 16-10.5, nearly eight inches farther than anyone else in the field.

Senior Tim Uher (Granville, Ohio/Pickerington North) showed his versatility, placing in four events. His best finish was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles. In addition, freshman David Kolakowski (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River)contributed a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 13-5.25, which is less than five inches from the school record, and the 4x200-meter relay of Colbert, freshman Clark Jones (Chicago, Ill./Trinity Pawling), freshman Moses Mbeseha (State College, Pa./State College) and junior Jumar Guy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside).

For the women, the next best finish was a second in the 5,000 meters from sophomore Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), followed closely by a fourth in the same event from sophomore Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston). In addition, the 4x200-meter relay quartet of sophomore Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), freshman Shawnquaya Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont), Goller and freshman Lea Morin (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) placed second and the 1,600-meter relay of sophomore Keri Wisniewski (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Domiano, junior Karen Bellanca (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and sophomoreDarcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) placed third.
