Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Fall to Piedmont

ORLANDO, FLA. – It was a hard-fought battle for Wittenberg's tennis teams on Sunday, March 9, however, both teams fell to Piedmont in an evening match at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida during the first day of their Spring Break trip.

On the men's side, the Tigers fell to Piedmont, 6-1, with Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, OH / Springboro) posting the lone win at No. 5 singles. He defeated his opponent 5-7, 6-2, and 1-0 (11-9 in the tiebreaker). In doubles, the Tigers lost in scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-2. 

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-6 on the season, while Piedmont improves to 6-4.

Men's Singles vs. Piedmont: 

  • Court 1: Ethan Libby  (Loveland, OH / Loveland) lost 7-6, 6-4
  • Court 2: Jacob Bennett  (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington Central) lost 6-0, 6-1
  • Court 3: Kyle Fout (Gahanna, OH / Gahanna Lincoln) lost 6-2, 6-3
  • Court 4: Justin Hardie (Centerville, OH / Centerville) lost 6-0, 6-3
  • Court 5: Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, OH / Springboro) won 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9)
  • Court 6: Benjamin Glassman (Woodbridge, CT / Amity Regional) lost 6-0, 6-1

Wittenberg's women's team also fell to Piedmont by the score of 6-1. The first doubles team of Caroline Sproule (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) and Sidney Purks (Oakwood, OH / Oakwood) defeated their opponent 6-3, however, Piedmont won at second and third doubles to claim the doubles point.

In singles, Sproule dominated her opponent in scores of 6-2 and 6-1 to claim Wittenberg's only point in the match.

The women's team falls to 0-2 on the season. With the win, Piedmont remains undefeated at 9-0.
