Tigers Fall To Third-Ranked Kenyon In Dual Finale

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams put the finishing touches on the 2012-13 dual meet season with matching losses to perennial national power Kenyon.

On the men's side, the Tigers finished with a dual record of 7-4, with all four losses coming against teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America national poll. Kenyon is ranked third in the poll.

The Tiger women finished with a dual record of 9-3, with two losses coming against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rivals Denison and Kenyon, ranked second and third nationally. The other loss was to DePauw, which joins Wittenberg in the listing of "Others Receiving Votes."

Against Kenyon, several individuals stood out for the Tigers. For the men, sophomore A.J. Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) led the way with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.30. He added a second-place time in the 200-yard backstroke and a third in the 400-yard Individual Medley.

For the women, junior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) touched the wall in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke and in first place in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:27.54. She also took third place in the 200-yard medley relay with junior Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), senior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) and senior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier).

Also of note were the performances by freshman Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) and sophomore Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) in the 1000-yard freestyle. Both placed second in the event.
