Tiger Teams Open Season At NCAC Relays

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2010-11 season officially on Saturday in the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays, an annual "relays only" meet hosted this year at Kenyon College, with diving competition held at Denison University.

The Wittenberg women finished fourth of nine competing teams while the men turned in a fifth-place finish among a field of eight.

Freshman Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) led the women's 200-yard breaststroke relay team to a fifth-place finish by swimming the second-best individual leg of the event with a time of 30.54. Junior Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula), senior Katie Sbrocco (Highland Hts., Ohio/Mayfield) and freshman Clare Kozlowski (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) swam the other legs to put the Tigers in fifth among 21 relay teams.

The men's 1500-yard freestyle relay team comprised of sophomore Sam Archibald (Darien, Conn./Darien), freshman Blake Bosworth (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) and senior Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich./Northville) cruised into a seventh-place finish among 19 teams to headline the men's slate.

The Tigers kick off the dual-meet schedule when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 6 p.m. in the HPER Center Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 29.
