GAMBIER, Ohio - In the lid lifter of the 2008-09 swimming and diving season, the Tigers men's and women's teams both saw some strong relay performances in their NCAC Relay meet with both groups finishing fourth in the standings.
Leading the way for the Tiger women was freshman Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) as she led off a fourth-place Tiger 200 yard breaststroke relay effort. On that same relay, another freshman, Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) had a strong performance, while the first-year also helped Wittenberg to a third-place 200 yard medley relay finish. The Tigers finished with 105 points to edge the College of Wooster for fourth place by two points.
On the men's side, senior Andy Bates (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) and the 200-yard backstroke relay took fifth in a strong field. Meanwhile, freshman Ted Hutchinson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln) and the Tiger 1,500 yard freestyle relay 'B' squad took a strong showing. On the day, Wittenberg totaled 94 points in a tightly contested field to finish right in front of Wabash College.
The dual meet season kicks off this week when the Tigers invite Ohio Wesleyan to Springfield for the first home meet in 2008-09. The meet kicks off this Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. from the HPERC Natatorium.
