Tigers Split Weekend Duals Against Transylvania, Denison

SPRINGFIELD/GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers turned in a pair of solid performances over the weekend, defeating Transylvania at home before losing to perennial powerhouse Denison on Saturday.

The scores for the men's and women's competitions were strikingly similar in each meet. The men topped Transylvania by a 129-99 count before losing to the Big Red, 145-92. The Tiger women were 129-96 victors over Transylvania before losing Denison, 139-92.

On Friday, the Tigers picked up individual first-place finishes from sophomore Chris Banas (Huntington Woods, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) in the 1000 free, freshman Neil Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) in the 200 and 500 free, junior Brian Harris (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) in the 50 and 100 free, senior Cody Nicely (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) in both diving events.

For the women, individual winners included senior Katie Spittler (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) in the 1000 free, freshman Adeline Brym (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) in the 200 free, junior Lindsay Smith (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) in the 50 free, junior Courtney Roth (Gurnee, Ill./Lake Forest) in the 1-meter diving, freshman Janna House (St. Thomas, Ontario/Central Elgin Collegiate Institute) in the 100 fly, freshman Kristin Elber (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) in the 100 free, senior Jen Mulligan (Cheyney, Pa./Delaware Valley Friends), freshman Emily Roesch (Oakland, Mich./Lake Orion), freshman Megan Trainor (McMurray, Pa/Peters Township) in the 3-meter diving. In addition, the Tigers had the best times in both relays on both the men's and women's sides.

Against Denison, the Tigers competed well but had just one breakthrough for a first place in the pool. Anderson claimed the top spot in the 1650 and 500 free events, while Nicely and Roth swept the diving events.
