LEXINGTON, KY - After thunderstorms wiped away their Friday night game at Asbury, Wittenberg Men's Soccer finally kicked off the 2024 season at Transylvania. In a game that was moved up by three hours to avoid the potential for inclement weather on a second straight day, the Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision to Transylvania.

Like Wittenberg, Transylvania saw its plans on Friday foiled by storms in the area, washing out a scheduled game against Heidelberg.

The final scoreline stands in contrast to the game's statistics, which were very even. Both teams finished the game with nine shots, while Wittenberg held a 7-5 edge in corner kick opportunities. However, the Pioneers made the most of their opportunities, finding the back of the net with unassisted goals in the sixth and 28th minutes, and then putting the game away with a tally in the 68th minute.

Wittenberg's offense was paced by Cameron Elliott (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) with three shots, including one on target. Christopher Meyer (Toledo, OH / St. Francis) added two shots, both on goal, and Gabe Porter (Worthington, OH / Kilboure) also finished with two goals, including one that was saved. Mustapha Kinteh (Columbus, OH / Gahanna Lincoln) and Jackson Miller (Westerville, OH / South) had the other two Tiger attempts to score.

In goal, Sam Nitzberg (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Country Day) faced six Transylvania shots on target. He was credited with three saves.

Wittenberg's next game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, against another Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) rival, Manchester. Start time at Edwards-Maurer Field is 7 p.m.
