Tigers Drop Hard Fought NCAC Battle At Wooster

Wooster, OH – The Wittenberg men's soccer team traveled to the College of Wooster for an North Coast Athletic Conference contest with the Fighting Scots, falling by a final score of 3-2. Wittenberg had the early advantage, taking a 2-1 lead into the break.

Andres Mujica broke open the scoring on the day, finding the back of the Wooster net in 7th minute of action. Mustapha Kinteh assisted Kees Ciric in the 17th minute, for his eighth goal of the season and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. This makes back-to-back games that Ciric has found the back of the net for the Wittenberg offense. Coming off a two-goal effort in last Saturday's 4-0 win at Hiram. Mujica tallied his second goal of the season, and his first in NCAC play in 2022.

Wooster put the pressure on late in the half, scoring their first goal in the 31st minute, making it a 2-1 game. The Fighting Scots kept the momentum rolling in the second half, knotting the game up at 2-2 in the 65th minute, before going on to tally the game-winner in the 71st. After getting out-shot in the first-half 11-5, Wittenberg kept pace with Wooster and matching the Scots with 10 shots apiece through the final 45-minutes. Wittenberg held the advantage on corner kicks on the night, 7-6, earning five in the second-half alone.

Sam Nitzberg made seven saves against 10 Wooster shots on goal.

Wittenberg will return to action on Friday, October 14, hosting Oberlin College and celebrating Senior Night at 7:30 pm.
