Springfield, OH -- It was Senior Day at Edwards-Maurer Field Saturday evening, as Wittenberg celebrated seniors Jason BowenEli Esterline, and brother Gus Esterline. With Senior Day celebrations happening before the match against the Hiram Terriers, the Tigers started the match strong with Eli leading the pack with nine of the 18 total shots taken on goal. The match was nothing short of physical, 14 total fouls against Wittenberg and 10 for Hiram. Goalkeeper Jason Bowen collected the first yellow card in the 36th minute. The Tigers were able to make plays sending it downfield, but neither team was able to capitalize in the beginning until Hiram scored just under two mintues left in the first half.

This made way for a quick offense in the second half from the Tigers as sophomore Logan Evans sends it in from outside the box, off the crossbar, into a header from Eli for goal number one, tying the game in the 73rd minute. Not before the Tigers collected two additional yellow cards, with Hiram adding a yellow and a red card.

Wittenberg was met with many chances, having five corner kicks in the second half, eight in total. With a minute left in regulation, Eli sent in a corner to the center of the penalty box, up for a header from Kees Ciric for the game winning goal. The Tigers came away with a strong victory, 2-1.

Wittenberg will stay at home for their next match vs Kenyon Friday, October 1 at 7:45 p.m.
